3 Things To Do For Spring

I’ve been looking forward to spring for some time. However, this week, it seems like we are having summer. Perhaps we have jumped right over the spring season altogether. Regardless, we’re in a period of transition from one season to another. The winter is gone and we are adjusting to warmer weather and more daylight.

When spring arrives, people often seem to wake up from a long winter slumber. Suddenly, it’s time to pay attention to health and well-being. This may also be a good time to shake up our spiritual life. Here are a few things we can do as we move into this new season.

  1. Get Out – In northern climates, we spend a great deal of time indoors during the winter. Now we can get outside and enjoy the sunshine and God’s creation. The trees and flowers are blooming and nature is turning green. Spiritually, it’s a good time to get out of some bad routines and put more of God’s word into your day. Get a new Bible reading plan or listen to a different podcast that encourages your faith.
  1. Clean Out – Spring cleaning is a real thing. It’s a great time to clean out closets and cupboards. We take an inventory of all the things we have and all the things we don’t need. Likewise, we take the time to clean out our spirit. Ask the Lord to search your heart and reveal if there is some sin or habit that needs cleaning out. It’s always a good time to confess.
  1. Work Out – This is the season when many take the opportunity to start exercising again. People walk, run and get in shape for the warmer weather. After the winter, we may want to lose a few kilos before the summer. Find a way to exercise your spiritual muscles in this new season. What are some new spiritual routines that would get you growing again? Maybe you could find a new place to use your gifts.

We are reminded in Ephesians 4 that we need to keep moving forward in our Christian walk. Paul writes: “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)

As you enjoy the warmer days, remember to put off the old and put on the new.
