Are you living in a country other than what your passport says?
Have you moved multiple times?
Are your parents from different countries?
Have you had to say too many goodbyes to your friends, because you moved again?
Are you juggling languages?
Then this is a fun and challenging camp especially for you!
Moving countries and living in places where you didn’t grow up and you don’t speak the language can be a big challenge. How do you do that? Where do you feel ‘at home’ when home is not home anymore? And what does that all have to do with faith and being a Christian?
Crossroads International Church of Basel is organising a TCK* camp for teenagers between ages 12 and 18. We are going to think, talk and track with these questions. But we won’t give you time to get bored! There’ll be many exciting activities, sports, interaction, hiking, white-water rafting, dirt and mountains to enjoy.
*TCK = third-culture kid
These are kids who are raised in a culture other than their parents’ or the culture of the country named on their passport for a significant part of their early development years. They are often exposed to a greater variety of cultural influences.
What’s the deal?
Date: Sunday, 2 August 2020 to Sunday, 9 August 2020
Departure: 10:00 AM Sunday morning from the parking lot of Decathlon on the Leimgrubenweg in Basel (just around the corner from Crossroads)
Where to: Grächen in Canton Wallis/Valais in Switzerland
Accommodation: Gruppenhaus Santa Fee (click here to see more details)
Food: you are taken care of for all grub: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks; the only thing we ask of you is that you lend a hand with setting tables and cleaning up
The cost per participant is CHF 485 per person. It includes everything: the trip from Basel to Grächen and back, all food, the showers, bed linen (you don’t have to bring a sleeping bag), all activities – everything.
If you and/or your parents are regulars at Crossroads International Church of Basel, the church will give you a scholarship of CHF 125, so the direct cost for your parents is CHF 360. If your friends want to come along, they are welcome to, but if they are not regularly attending Crossroads, they will have to pay the full amount of CHF 485.
What to bring?
You need to bring some towels for yourself, your own clothes, toiletries, swimming gear, outdoor clothes and a pair of good hiking shoes. You don’t need to bring a whole lot of money (perhaps just to buy an ice cream or a souvenir); the rest of the time, you are taken care of. We advise you not to bring fancy clothes and to limit yourself to one bag or suitcase.
What is the program?
The specifics are a surprise for the teens, but we can say this much: it will be exciting, adventurous, meaningful, deep, fun, mountainous, watery, full of beauty and nature and co-travellers. You are in safe hands. We will stretch you a bit, both in your soul and your body, but no worries: you will come out better and stronger!
To register for this extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime-event, click the “Register here” button below. For this camp, you need to have permission of your legal guardians (e.g. your mum or dad).
For each person attending, separate registration is required! So, if you and your brother or sister, or you and your friend are coming, we need multiple registration forms to be submitted!
After having processed your registration form, you will receive an e-mail confirmation from us. After that, a non-refundable deposit payment of CHF 100 per participant needs to be made to the Crossroads bank account (click here for details). Non-refundable means that if you cancel at a later date, you won’t get the deposit back, so “look before you leap”!
YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS!
Negotiate with your parent(s), promise to do the dishes over the next 5 weeks, say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ until you are fully registered (and of course long after that!). You will want to be part of Camp Now!
